Lions Hate Pigeons

Kate's award winning story about the two lion statues in Nottingham's market square. In the book the lions come alive at night once everyone has gone to sleep. The two lions go on an adventure through the city centre to find the pigeons who pester them during the day.

Lions Hate Pigeons is the first self published book by Kate Wand. The book was entered into the Young Creative Awards Nottingham 2020 and was the winner of the Graphic Design category (age category 19-24).

The House In The Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

This self guided project was a chance for Kate to get creative and reimagine the cover of her favourite book "The House In The Cerulean Sea" by TJ Klune. She wanted to capture the whimsical quality of the story without spoiling the plot.

Dotty the giraffe

Dotty the giraffe is a board book concept that was written and illustrated by Kate Wand. The book is a light and playful story about a young girl describing her friend Dotty the giraffe. Suitable for babies and toddlers.

Florence's First Friend

Written and Illustrated by Kate Wand, this book was a gift for her new born sister. The book was accompanied by a toy dragon in the hopes that her younger sister Florence would create her own adventures with her new best friend.

How To Pet A Dog

A sensory story written and illustrated by Kate Wand.

The inspiration behind this project came from Kate's love of dogs. Many children are afraid of dogs or don't behave appropriately around them. This book is a fun way for children to learn how to interact with them.

This story aims to be inclusive by incorporating sensory elements. Each page is accompanied with a postcard with instructions for the adult and a sensory object. With every page there is an action to be performed to help to engage the child. Throughout the book the senses that will be engaged are: sight, touch, smell and hearing.

Some children may not engage with just a flat picture book and may need extra senses to be involved in order to get as much enjoyment from the book as possible.

This helps to engage children regardless of disability.
