I'm Kate and I describe myself as an Illustrator and Children's book maker.

My work is bright and cheerful with lots of textures. The textures are a mix of handmade, found and digital. I hand draw the illustrations and combine/colour them digitally. I enjoy making work based on animals and my hometown of Nottingham, UK.

Illustration wasn't always a clear career path for me. Up until the age of 16/17 I wanted to study science and become maybe a vet or a biologist. However I realised that nothing makes me happy like making art does. So here we are, I have a first class degree in Graphic Design and I'm making my way in the world as a freelance Illustrator.

I've always loved creating stories from a young age. The visual aspect of a story was always my favourite. At university I discovered that children's book illustration was something that I was really passionate about. One of my career goals is to have one of my children's books published traditionally.

In 2020, my book 'Lions Hate Pigeons' won the Graphic Design award for the Young Creatives Awards. I wrote and illustrated a children's book based on the stone statue lions who live in Nottingham's market square. The lions come alive at night and get their own back on the pesky pigeons.
